NEW YORK (Reuters) - Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre announced his retirement on Tuesday, ending one of the National Football League's most fabled careers. Here are some facts about Favre and his career:

2003 - Plays in all 16 games despite fracturing the thumb on his throwing hand in the team's seventh game of the season requiring him to wear a protective splint the rest of the year. Selected to his eighth Pro Bowl after leading Packers to their ninth playoff appearance in his 12 years.

Lets not forget his off the feild contributions to the world. His Favre4ward Foundation has donated millions to charitable organizations across the country, especially those geared towards children like the make-wish foundation. Since 1996 he has granted 65 wishes through them. He is the true definition of a Sportsman. I am proud to say that I watched him play, and win, at Lambeau Field. I have been there for 2 late December games and he never let the weather affect his play. Who knew that a good old boy from Kiln Mississippi would become the prototype cold weather player. Thanks for the memories Brett!!!
