Vampire Games
“the games mean everything, put your life on the line or go home.” as I stepped up I remembered the words of my master. As I look over to him he flashes his teeth and mouths “kill him” I look over to my opponent, the wolf I have dealt with so many times before. He smiles and says ”your dead mortal”. I take a breath and launch an attack on him.
As I stand victorious over the rotting carcass of my enemy, I heard the sound all vampires dreaded, the screams of the soul hunters. Everyone but my master and I fled, because we knew what we had to do. We charged them head on and realized that this was the first mistake. As we drew our weapons, we realized that was the second mistake. Then they took off their hoods, we knew what was coming next, the black vortexes they call mouths. Then we hear the deafening screams of the ground ripping open and the spirits reaching down and take the soul hunters back into the never ending depths of hell. Then the screams get more and more painful as their bodies are getting ripped apart. We look to the spot were they stood seconds before and see nothing but smoldering craters. We continue home for training--then we hear the sounds of the ground being ripped open again. As the smoke clears we see the aftermath--nothing but destruction. Ruins of what used to be the city were being devoured by a monstrosity called a soul hunter. He turns around and we stare--to stupid to run-- we fleet as fast as possible towards the city to see if there are any survivors. We get closer and closer to the city. As soon as we get there it disappears completely into the soul hunters mouth. Just as we started running through the ruins to get to the other side a giant hand reaches down and grabs my master--he tells me to keep running--but I cant leave him behind after all he has taught me, so I turn to go get him back. As I soar through the air I get caught. I thought my life is going to end here, just as I thought that the ground opened and we were dragged down to the games. “face your enemy and draw your weapon.” I never thought that it would come down to this--me against my master. Time to see what he taught me pays off or not. As I charge him he easily sidesteps it and I realize that its going to be an even match up--same speed, same strength, same wits, and same moves. Whoever is going to be victorious will have the last laugh--and whoever isn’t victorious then this is their last battle. As I look around the room and see the faces of his previous acquiesces a bead of sweat rolls down my cheek. I can hear the chant rolling through the crowd-- “Master! Master!” and inside my mind my own conscience is going “I know he’s going to win, so why try?” Just as I thought that he put down his weapon and walked away. As I starred at him in disbelief the referee declared me the winner--the blood stone was mine. As I was walking out I heard a quiet but distinctive “congratulations.” Right away I knew that it was my master congratulating me on a fight he should’ve won. Then I asked “why?” He said that all my students have to learn how to walk away from a mistake. “So it was you who summoned the soul hunters?”he replied, “Yeah, to train you, and see if you were ready, now I learned that we are ready to go to the next stage of the games.” i couldnt believe it so i asked,“so this is all a game to you?”he replied coolly “exactly, time for the next round.” As I was walking with my master I heard someone yell towards our direction. At first I thought that it was one of masters disciples but it turned out to be a regular person. Then out of nowhere he got lifted off his feet and carried to a tower. Then I realized that we are going to that tower--the tower of the damned souls. “why the hell are we going there?” “that’s the next round” As we were going into the tower, I realized that this is the last round, all or nothing is on the line. And I was going to have to either face a friend or a master, and it wasn’t my choice. Then I heard a sigh of depression I would recognize anywhere, it was my best friend scales--snake boy. I asked what was wrong and he said, “I don’t want to kill you but I have too.” To be continued…….
