Kitty Cat Questions
In my life I have had many many a kitty. At the moment I have 3, all male, 2 fixed, one soon to be snipped.
My questions are: Does anyone have advice on how to calm down a male cat who appears to be in heat? He yells, he screams, he pees in random hard to reach places. Yes, he's soon to be fixed, but until then... anything you guys can think of that could help him chill out? My aim is bad, and he's very fast. Tossing a pillow at him when he wakes me up with his screams of love just isnt working, he's too quick. :P Other question is, since having my cat Pistachio fixed about 2 months ago he's gone from about 8 lbs to 13. Now I know 5 lbs doesnt sound like alot, but when your entire body can curl up in a shoebox (or could before the kitty flab) it REALLY shows. He plays, he runs around, he's active... but he eats like there's no tomorrow. I have 3 dogs here also, so even if I pick up the catfood, he'll go find something dog related to eat. |

try cat nip that chills cats out,buy the powdered form of it and sprinkle it on a scratch post,as for a cats weight gain, check around online, there are food supplements which claim to control a cats hunger but ive never used any with my cats(never had cause to)

as for the peeing, i had a cat who sprayed all over the damn place! theres a spray that you can get online, that calms them down, and makes them think that they've already marked that spot, and it worked pretty well for my cat. as for the tearing stuff up and wiggin out, i got mine fixed and he mellowed out a lot! he did gain some weight, but my vet said that was normal.

my cat was exactly the same, the way i calmed mine down was with catnip before he was snipped, as for the feeding habits try to isolate the cat which is over weight in another room of your home while you feed the others so as he cannot eat their food. then feed small quantities of food on a regular basis to the overweight cat. this is how my vet advised me to do it as i also have a dog at home. if it does'nt work ask you vet what they would suggest.
good luck |

Thanks guys. I ended up wussing out and just spending the cash for his snipping. I have some questions though.
Mooka, is the stuff you found online panther pee? Or something else? My boyfriend told me he heard if you spray panther pee where domestic cats have peed they way don't wanna go there anymore, but I have an issue with covering pee.. with pee. LOL Lemme know what's in the stuff you got. If it's not pee, it might just be my saving grace! Thanks for the advice on my fatty cat too. I'm gonna try that. I've always been a "just leave the food out and let them regulate" owner, but they have no self control. LOL

My son has an indoor kitty...our first one. He trained his cat with a squirt gun. The cat was fast, and he never could catch her when she'd do soething naughty....oh and she knew when she was naughty. she'd walk on his laptop keyboard, or scratch the chair, or try to tip over garbage. Finally he got small squirt gun and when he'd say NO and she didn't listen..he'd squirt her! soon all he had to do was say no and pick up gun, she'd be have. Finally he could just say NO

ok for the flabby kitty, invest in one of those rolling balls with a racoon tail on it, yes, it falls apart, but they get great exercise until the battery runs out. plus it's hilarious to watch them stalk and attack the ball.
As for the scratching, either declawing, or giving them a board to scratch on, and when you catch them scratching, then grab them (if you can) and take them to the scratching post. That's how I trained my first cat to only use a 2x4 (cheap scratching post). As for the pee issue, I found that bleach works wonders, they don't like the smell, mix about 10% bleach in water to clean the area, and it's not enough to poison them, but enough to leave the scent on the wall. Just don't rinse it, yes it'll smell like bleach for about a week, but the smell remains and I've never had a cat spray the same spot again. |
