GRC (http://www.grc.com) is very good...:

You can scan your ports safely, test your firewalls inbound protection, and learn how to secure computers running the Windows Operating system.
Steve Gibson (the owner of grc.com) has extensive knowledge in Windows Internet Security, and his web site has some excellent information.

It is definately worth a visit.

Its a long story and with some it has turned into an inside joke. One I find the least amusing btw.

I was sent the sygate thing thru messy. But each time I install..it seems to take over the pc and it wont let me do anything. I cant configure it (or wotever the right verb is) cause I cant even access it. I get no access to the net or anything so both times i tried (if not more), I just uninstalled it again.

The virus scanner that I use all the time is House Call from TrendMicro.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

This has never failed to delete worms or viruses that have infected my PC.
It has a constantly updated virus definition base, too.

Of course, I have a Anti-Virus program running in 'Real-Time' installed on my PC for additional protection, however - Trend Micro has a tendancy to pick up Viruses / Worms / Trojans that my AV does not detect..:

Try it out for yourselves ... http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
