Well I might agree with your statement about getting one with XP installed, but you would be kind of limiting yourself to certain brands, as most seem to no longer offer XP in any flavor on new systems.

Yeah, Vista might still be having some problems, and with the development that I hear about, it is just about like Windows ME, a interim system, to help develop the actual new system that will be out in about 1.5 years or so.

You never know, but I do not plan to get Vista unless one of my computers totally goes down, with no way to fix it. "Not likely but it could happen."

Sounds like you got a dell, i have been running Vista Enterprise and Home plus on my pcs and i prefere it to Windows XP; I would not classify Vista and ME as being in the same group. ME was just a sham.

All HP Laptops and Desktop work perfect with Vista.

the only problem I have had with Xp has been mainly drivers and the fact it likes the drivers to be installed before hardware and some of the drivers conflict with the generic drivers that Xp likes to keep as default could this be your problem

It took me a long time to figure out before I put a new piece of hardware on a system, that it prefered the driver software installed before the hardware. Yeah the fun of getting it to use the provided drivers over the generic types has been fun on occasion. But you know other hardware has worked better if I do not install the drivers first. So it depends on what the paperwork, or readme file says on each item. Many say now to use the installed driver in windows, and do not even ship one with the equipment.

if it causes no problem I like to keep the generic as default windows XP still has some little quirk's with other programmes drivers and it does have the biggest driver database of all windows system so finding one close enough to one near to what you would load from hardware is not to hard

no its a Acer laptop
sorry but I disagree vista is the sham it's just a very poor copy ripping off most of its utilities from other versions and other programmes and putting the name windows something or other in its place.
if bill gates came up with his own idea's instead of bodging them together with some one else's he might get better results, but then he would not be able to do that would he
have you read his history in computing never changed much.
