Yes, some insurance companies don't cover total cost. Many have a deductable you have to pay in first, then there's co-pay where they pay part, etc. A few days in the hospital can go into tens of thousands depending on what you had done and the care you needed.
You get billed by many doctors and for the different services besides just the hospital bill. Sure makes Canada look good.

The NHS isn't that great... having come from London when I damaged the cartilidge in my knee it took 6 weeks to get an X-ray done, 2 weeks for the results. Then 6 months for the MRI (by this time i couldn't walk), then another 6 months for my operation.
That's over a year! And my job is a performer....!! The NHS is good for GP's and emergancies. When it comes to general illnesses it is severly lacking. French healthcare on the otherhand is fantastic! Having travelled to multiple countries and witnessed (either firsthand or through other people) various healthcare systems, I have to say the French and German are some of the best. |

ive always had excellent service from the nhs,the doctors and nurses are pushed to the limit, but they do a great job,and far too many people take them for granted,my local hospital has had its funding cut but its still in the top ten league for low waiting and treatment times, its also one of the safest and cleanest in the country

But you do pay for the services... I don't know about you but my National Insurance that came out of my paychecks was a lot each month. And then paying again for perscriptions... almost £8 an item! That's not too cheap when you have to buy perscriptions every month (i'm asthmatic so have to buy inhalers a lot)
Now don't get me wrong, I love the NHS, I love the idea behind it. But i'm just saying it's not perfect. I have friends who work on the NHS and they are always complaining about the pay, about the working conditions etc... What I think my point is... is that every healthcare service has it's pro's and con's. In my experiance the french one is one of the best. The GP's (not all but the ones I been to) had X-Rays and could give you the results instantly (instead of waiting 2-3 weeks on the NHS for non-emergancy scans). Plus in France you only have to pay a small amount for doctors visits and for perscriptions... I just think that healthcare needs to be reviewed and improved in many countries! But I *am* thankful for the NHS, when i'm in the UK it is good. The Ambulence and A&E departments are fantastic! |
