Rejection and jealousy cause pain in those insecure and/or those who have unrealistic expectations (whether by being misled by others or due to their own fantasy hopes).
Sometimes people in pain want to share it, so they cause others pain. It makes things worse for all but many realize that too late if ever.
Just have faith in who you are and pity the liar. Truth has a way of eventually coming out. If she has any worth as a friend to anyone in your group, she'll come around to honestly. If not, I'd keep my distance from her since it will prove she cares about no one except herself.
I agree with MariaSue. Rise above this and enjoy your life anyway.
