I have experience in this, except no kids. I was living in lower Michigan at the time, and lost my job, and decided to pack up everything and move.
Sometimes I regret doing it and sometimes I don't. The only way to truely find out whether or not it was worth it is to either experience it or not.
The choice is, whether there are more jobs there or not...
by the way, my move was initiated by a girlfriend I am no longer with, but I have a fiancee now up where I moved to.
