the process of " chiping " does have a few advantages, it's a simple task if you have experience with electronic boards. a mate of mine at work has done several including ps's. what needs to be done is aquire the diagrams for the internal cuircitry and obtain the replacement chip which i have been informed cost roughly £3 to £8 pounds. the new chip has to be soldered into the exact position and wires are fed from the chip and attatched to the internal circuitry, this task has to be performed with the greatest of care so as not to "arc the circuits and blow the board, if these steps are performed correctly the only thing that is left to do is to upgrade the firmware of the new chip. i know of people who have paid to have this work done for about £30
